Sapphire Metallic-Sahara Effect (Old)

Application

Surface Preparation:

All surfaces must be clean and free of dust, dirt, oils and grease. Make sure the surface is sound and free of loose and flaking paint. Priming the substrate is highly recommended, and do not paint over shiny, smooth surfaces, such as plastic or glossy oil-based paints, unless prepared with the right primer.

Application Methods:

*To achieve a perfect finish, work in teams and in small sections.
Meoded Sapphire Metallic paints can be applied with a brush, roller, or HVLP sprayer. Use only high-quality tools with metallic effect paints. Work quickly in one direction, from joint to joint, keeping a wet edge while working. A strié effect may be created by applying with a brush in vertical or horizontal fashion. A roller may be used in a random pattern to create a unique finish as well. Other decorative painting tools and techniques may be used to create your desired results. It is important to note that a uniform finish is not achievable with Sapphire Metallic if rolled or brushed like standard acrylic paints. Spraying may require thinning with water; do not reduce more than 10%. Lightly spray each coat at a distance of 12-24” from surface with air pressure of 55-65psi. Do not apply too heavily in areas; pooling and dripping may occur. Regularly stir paint while working. Two or more coats are usually required to obtain the desired look. Apply only during temperate conditions: 50° to 90°F and between 25% and 75% relative humidity. Higher temperature and lower humidity may cause the paint to lose its wet edge.

Sahara Lines Application Method:

Base coat: It is recommended to roll a Sapphire Metallic base coat or a matching color eggshell paint. For full dry time wait 12 hours.
Second Coat: Add 2.5 lbs. of glass beads to 1 gallon of Sapphire Metallic paint and stir well. Use a 4” brush to coat the surface creating either horizontal, vertical or diagonal lines. Immediately after, take a clean brush to smoothen the surface and straighten the lines.

Sahara Fabric Application Method:

The fabric technique uses a rigato tool to design the Sahara fabric look with horizontal, vertical, or diagonal lines.
First coat: Add 2.5 lbs. of glass beads to 1 gallon of Sapphire Metallic paint and stir well. Use a 4” brush to coat the surface creating horizontal lines. Immediately after, use a rigato tool to smoothen the surface and straighten the lines. Once the lines have been straightened, take a clean brush to smoothen the lines once again. For full dry time wait 12 hours.
Second Coat: Use a 4” brush to coat the surface creating vertical lines. Immediately after, use a rigato tool to smoothen the surface and straighten the lines. Once the lines have been straightened, take a clean 4” brush to smoothen the lines once again.

Exterior Application:

It is recommended to protect Sapphire Metallic with Meoded Clear Satin or Clear Gloss for exterior applications. Two coats will usually provide adequate protection, while three coats are recommended for high traffic areas.
