Saint-Astier® NHL 5 – The Strong Lime for Heavy-Duty Masonry and Exposed Environments

Eminently Hydraulic Lime | 5 MPa Strength | 100% Natural

Saint-Astier® NHL 5 is a high-strength, eminently hydraulic lime suited for demanding structural work, marine environments, and severe weather exposure. With excellent mechanical performance and natural composition, it’s the lime of choice for fortifications, chimneys, foundations, and historic or new buildings exposed to harsh conditions.

Key Benefits

• High Compressive Strength: Delivers 5 MPa strength after 28 days, ideal for structural applications and areas subject to high stress.
• Weather & Salt Resistant: Performs well in marine, coastal, and frost-prone environments, making it suitable for extreme conditions.
• Faster Set Time: Offers a quicker set compared to lower-grade NHLs, reducing turnaround times in cooler or damp climates.
• Natural Durability: No chemical additives—pure lime from the Saint-Astier quarry with long-term performance.
• Sustainable Strength: Provides structural resilience while maintaining moderate breathability.

• Structural Masonry: Perfect for load-bearing walls, foundations, retaining walls, and vaults.
• Chimneys & Flues: Resists thermal stress and harsh weathering.
• Bridge & Marine Works: Withstands aggressive environments like harbors, riverbanks, and coastal buildings.
• Repointing of Hard Stone: Ideal for granite, basalt, and other dense masonry needing robust bonding.
• Lime Concrete: Can be used in limecrete or lime-stabilized flooring systems where high performance is needed.

Application Guidelines

• Mixing: Combine with clean, sharp sand in proper ratios (often 1:2.5–3 by volume) and potable water. Adjust based on use.
• Surface Preparation: Substrates should be sound, clean, and pre-dampened to aid adhesion and reduce suction.
• Application Conditions: Ideal application temperatures range from 8°C to 30°C. Protect from frost, rapid drying, or rain.
• Curing: Keep moist for at least 5–10 days depending on the climate and thickness of the application.
• Set Time: Faster than NHL 2 and 3.5—ideal when quicker set and early strength are required.

Packaging and Storage

• Available Sizes: 25 kg bags.
• Shelf Life: 12 months if stored in a dry, sealed container.

Notable Projects

• Castle Restoration: Used for structural consolidation of stone fortresses and castle walls.
• Harbor & Dock Repairs: Proven performance in saltwater exposure and freeze-thaw cycles.
• Cathedral Foundations: Reinforces massive masonry while respecting the breathability of traditional materials.
