WHY CONCRETE PLASTERS?

Meoded Concrete Plasters combine cement with finely milled limestone to create finishes that are both durable and versatile. The limestone improves workability, flexibility, and breathability, making surfaces less prone to cracking and better at managing moisture than traditional concrete plasters. Suitable for both interior and exterior applications, these plasters deliver a modern aesthetic – ranging from sleek, smooth surfaces to richly textured finishes that define  any architectural project.

APPLICATION TIPS

Golmex – Concrete Look Plaster

Mixing: Mix 1 gallon (10 lb) of Golmex powder with 30–36 fl. oz. of clean water. Mix small batches at a time, as it dries within 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. Variations in water, mixing speed, or rehydration will affect color and final texture.

Preparation: Surfaces should be clean, dust- and oil-free, and preferably Level 4–5. For new drywall, wood, or glossy surfaces, apply the recommended water-based primer followed by one coat of Meoded Quartz Primer (allow 3–5 hours to dry). Existing surfaces with sheen should be sanded and primed similarly. Exterior brown coats should be pressure washed, primed with Quartz Primer diluted up to 25% water, and allowed to dry before application.

Application: Use a stainless steel rounded-edge trowel or spatula. Apply the first coat thinly and evenly, then lightly sponge in circular motions to expose the aggregate and smooth imperfections. Allow 12 hours to dry. Apply the second coat evenly, compressing with the trowel for a smoother finish or leaving texture effects. Sand after 24 hours if needed.

Sealing: After at least 48 hours, protect with Meoded Stain Shield to resist moisture and dirt while preserving natural color and texture.

Vega – Stone-Texture Plaster

Mixing: Combine 1 gallon (10 lb) of Vega powder with 30–36 fl. oz. of clean water. Only mix what can be applied within 45 minutes to 1.5 hours.

Preparation: Surfaces must be smooth, clean, and dust-free. Prime new or glossy surfaces with the recommended water-based primer and one coat of Quartz Primer (allow 3–5 hours to dry). Exterior brown coats should be cleaned, primed, and allowed to dry.

Application: Apply with a stainless steel or plastic trowel. First coat is applied evenly, with circular motions to expose aggregates and smooth imperfections; allow 12 hours to dry. For the second coat, apply slightly thicker: for smooth finishes, burnish with minimal pressure; for pitted or precast textures, use a circular motion with a plastic trowel to sculpt aggregates before drying. Recommended to use a Whiteout Trowel when applying light colors to prevent carbon burnishing marks.

Sealing: After at least 48 hours, protect with Meoded Stain Shield to resist moisture and dirt while preserving natural color and texture.

VEGA PLASTER INSTRUCTIONS

Mixing: Combine 1 gallon (10 lb) of Vega powder with 30–36 fl. oz. of clean water. Working time is 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. Mixing variations or adding extra water can affect color and texture-only mix what you can apply.

New Surfaces: Ensure surfaces are smooth, clean, and dust-free. Prime as needed (PVA for drywall, multipurpose primer for wood/glossy surfaces), then apply one coat of Meoded Quartz Primer (allow 3–5 hours to dry).

Existing Surface: Any surface with sheen should be sanded, dust free, and then primed with a water based multi-purpose primer letting it dry fully. Next apply one coat of Quartz Primer allowing it at least 3-5 hours to dry. Preparation of flat surfaces require only the application of Quartz Primer.

Application: Use a stainless steel rounded-edge trowel or spatula to apply two coats. For light colors, use the Whiteout Trowel to avoid dark marks.

First Coat: Apply evenly across the surface. Before drying, lightly sponge or use a plastic trowel in circular motions to expose aggregates and smooth imperfections. Allow 12 hours to dry.

Second Coat – Pitted/Precast Texture: Apply evenly as before. While wet, use a plastic trowel in circular motions to sculpt aggregates and achieve desired stone textures. For smooth finishes, compress lightly with the trowel and burnish as needed.

Sealing: After at least 48 hours, protect with Stain Shield for moisture and dirt resistance without altering color. For a glossy finish, apply a gloss sealer as desired.

Concrete Plaster FAQs

Concrete plaster is a decorative, cement-based wall finish designed to replicate the look of raw concrete while allowing for custom texture and movement. It is widely used in modern and architectural design to create seamless surfaces with depth, character, and a refined industrial aesthetic for both interior and exterior spaces.

Concrete plaster and microcement may appear similar, but they serve different purposes. Concrete plaster is typically applied in thicker layers to create authentic concrete or stone-like textures with natural variation and depth. Microcement is a thinner coating used for smooth, continuous surfaces, often in wet areas. Concrete plaster is preferred when a more natural, textured architectural finish is desired.

Concrete plaster can be applied to a wide range of properly prepared surfaces, including drywall, plaster, cement board, brick, and previously painted walls. It is suitable for interior and exterior applications such as feature walls, façades, fireplaces, and architectural elements where texture and durability are important.

Concrete plaster is applied by hand using a stainless steel trowel in multiple thin layers. The final texture depends on the application technique—surfaces can be smoothed, burnished, or left with natural pitting and movement. This flexibility allows for finishes ranging from sleek modern concrete looks to bold, textured stone effects.

Sealing concrete plaster is recommended in most applications to improve durability, washability, and resistance to moisture or staining. While some finishes can remain unsealed for a more natural look, a protective sealer is ideal for high-traffic areas, kitchens, bathrooms, and exterior surfaces.

High-quality concrete plasters formulated with both cement and limestone are designed to be durable and flexible, reducing the risk of cracking when applied over a properly prepared surface. This combination improves adhesion, minimizes shrinkage, and ensures long-term performance in both interior and exterior environments.

Yes, concrete plaster is suitable for exterior applications when properly installed and sealed. It provides a durable, weather-resistant finish that maintains its texture and appearance over time, making it ideal for façades and outdoor architectural surfaces.
